Too Many Courses

    My program of study shows too many Independent Study or Special Topics courses.


1. Obtain a Petition for Modification or Waiver of the Graduate School Academic and Administrative Policies form from:

  • the Graduate School, 200 Boone Hall or

  • the Office of Records and Registration, 303 Pierce Hall or

2. Complete the form by:

  • signing it

  • indicating why so many courses were needed in an independent study or special topics format

  • indicating how many credits of any one type of special coursework and how many overall credits of special coursework is on your program of study

  • obtaining the graduate program coordinator/advisor's signature

3. Return form:

  • to the Office of Records and Registration

  • prior to application for graduation

4. Remember:

  • You may have a MAXIMUM OF 6 HOURS of each of the special courses (thesis, independent study, special topics, seminar, workshop, etc.) on your program of study.

  • You may have no more than 12 HOURS OF ANY COMBINATION of special courses.
