I missed the course drop deadline and I need to withdraw from a course.

1. Obtain the Student Request for Withdrawal form from:

  • the Graduate School, 200 Boone Hall or

  • the Office of Records and Registration, 303 Pierce Hall or

  • click on "PDF" on the right column under "Download" and print copy

2. Complete the form by obtaining:

  • the instructor's signature

3. Return form:

  • to the Graduate School, 200 Boone Hall

  • prior to the last week of the semester

4. Remember:

  • You may NOT withdraw from a course due to a low grade. The grade received is what your record will show and you may repeat the course one time only.

  • If medical, family, employment or military emergencies arise, you may use this form to withdraw from a course but documentation or a written explanation must be provided.

  • The withdrawal or "W" does not impact your GPA.

  • Students on financial aid or who hold a scholarship, fellowship, or graduate assistanship should check with the Office of Financial Aid or the Graduate School prior to completing the withdrawal. A student may be required to pay back aid or pay tuition previously covered by an assistanship.

  • F-1 or J-1 holders must also seek withdrawal approval from the Office of International Students for SEVIS regulations.

  • If the instructor is willing to give you an Incomplete and you expect to complete the work within the year, you may want to take the "I" grade. An "I" does not calculate in your GPA and is removed when a replacement grade is submitted. You do not have to complete any form to receive the "I" grade. The instructior marks the grade sheet accordingly.

  • "I" grades not converted to a letter grade within three years CAN NOT be changed. This applies to coursework and not thesis, dissertation or credits for a culminating/cap stone project.
