I will exceed the 3, 6, or 7-year time limit for my program of study.
1. Obtain a Petition for Modification or Waiver of the Graduate School Academic and Administrative Policies form (see left column under "Related Links") from:
the Graduate School, 200 Boone Hall or
the Office of Records and Registration, 303 Pierce Hall or
2. Complete the form by:
signing it
obtaining the graduate program coordinator/advisor's signature
attach a current program of study
briefly indicating what has happened to prevent you from completing the program in its original time frame
indicating the semester you intend to finish your work - the extension is given through the end of a specific semester (e.g., Fall 2007).
indicating what you have left to finish on the program and your projected plan to accomplish the remaining course work or research.
3. Return form:
to the Graduate School, 200 Boone Hall (fax 734-487-0050)
prior to application for graduation
4. Remember:
If for some reason you have been unable to complete program work by the extension deadline, another petition will have to be submitted.
Program time deadlines are 3 years for certificate programs, 6 years for master's and specialist degrees, and 7 years for doctoral programs.
Some course content may in addition require updating or validation; see next section.
