Will Exceed Time Limit

    I will exceed the 3, 6, or 7-year time limit for my program of study.


1. Obtain a Petition for Modification or Waiver of the Graduate School Academic and Administrative Policies form (see left column under "Related Links") from:

  • the Graduate School, 200 Boone Hall or

  • the Office of Records and Registration, 303 Pierce Hall or

2. Complete the form by:

  • signing it

  • obtaining the graduate program coordinator/advisor's signature

  • attach a current program of study

  • briefly indicating what has happened to prevent you from completing the program in its original time frame

  • indicating the semester you intend to finish your work - the extension is given through the end of a specific semester (e.g., Fall 2007).

  • indicating what you have left to finish on the program and your projected plan to accomplish the remaining course work or research.

3. Return form:

  • to the Graduate School, 200 Boone Hall (fax 734-487-0050)

  • prior to application for graduation

4. Remember:

  • If for some reason you have been unable to complete program work by the extension deadline, another petition will have to be submitted.

  • Program time deadlines are 3 years for certificate programs, 6 years for master's and specialist degrees, and 7 years for doctoral programs.

  • Some course content may in addition require updating or validation; see next section.
