Provost's Medal






IN RECOGNITION OF ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
AND EXEMPLARY SERVICE TO EASTERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY BY A GRADUATE ASSISTANT

The Provost's Medal is presented annually to a graduate assistant who demonstrates an outstanding commitment to the University as indicated by a record of exceptional scholarly and/or creative activities and service above and beyond the scope of the assistantship. Individuals may receive the award only once.

Nominations for the Provost's Medal will be accepted from all deans, department heads, program directors, project coordinators and members of the faculty and professional staff.

Members of the university community are encouraged to nominate graduate students who exemplify exceptional dedication the Eastern Michigan University.

Nominations will be evaluated and the recipient chosen by a committee consisting of members of the campus community. The award will be presented at the Graduate Research Fair.

Guidelines for Nominations:

  • Nomination letters and supporting materials should include documentation of the nominee's record of exceptional academic performance contributions to departmental projects, involvement in student activities and professionally related community activities.

  • Supporting materials should include a brief resume that outlines the nominee's professional experience and letters supporting the nomination. The official nomination form should include as the first piece of supporting material.

  • A call for nominations and a description of the nominating procedure will be placed in Focus EMU and EMU Today. Descriptions of the nominating procedure and copies of the nominating forms will be sent to all deans, department heads, program directors and project coordinators.

  • All nominations and supporting materials must be submitted to the selection committee by the specified dates. No late applications or materials will be accepted.

The Provost's Medal is presented annually to a graduate assistant who demonstrates an outstanding commitment to the University as indicated by a record of exceptional scholarly and/or creative activities and service above and beyond the scope of the assistantship. Individuals may receive the award only once.

It is the responsibility of the sponsor and the nominee to provide supporting data. Information provided by the nominator will be invaluable to the selection process. The nomination package should include:

  • A brief cover letter for, and vita from, the nominee.

  • Supporting data - not to exceed six pages. The nominator should provide a cover letter which includes:

    • a summary of the nominee's contributions to the department, college and/or university

    • explanation of how the nominee's contributions are above and beyond the scope of the assistantship

    • a summary of the nominee's involvement in professionally related community activities

    • documentation of the nominee's record of scholarly and/or creative activities

  • No more than four letters of support from the individuals who have knowledge of the activities which are the basis of the nomination.

To be considered for this award, all nomination materials must be received by the close of business on Friday, March 9, 2007. Late or incomplete nominations or supporting materials will not be accepted. All nomination materials become the property of the selection committee and will be kept confidential. The Provost's Medal will be awarded during the annual Graduate Research Fair. Nomination materials should be delivered to:
