Guidelines

The Collins Awards are presented annually to master's level graduate assistants who demonstrate outstanding commitment to the University as indicated by a record of exceptional scholarly and/or creative activities, or service above and beyond the scope of the assistantship. The Ronald W. Collins Award recognizes scholarly and/or creative activity, and the Gerrie Collins Award recognizes exemplary service to the University. Individuals may be nominated for only one award and may receive a Collins Award only once.

Nominations for the Collins Awards will be accepted from all deans, department heads, program directors, project coordinators and members of the faculty and professional staff. Members of the university community are encouraged to nominate graduate students who exemplify exceptional dedication to Eastern Michigan University. Nominations will be evaluated and the recipient chosen by a committee consisting of members of the campus community. The award will be presented at the Graduate Research Fair Awards Ceremony.

Guidelines for Nominations:

  • Nominations must be for either the Ronald W. Collins Award for scholarly/creative activity, or the Gerrie Collins Award for service to the University. Students
may not be nominated for both Awards. Preference will be given to students who will be graduating in April, June or August.

  • Nomination materials for the Ronald W. Collins Award should include documentation of the nominee's record of exceptional scholarly/creative achievement. Nomination materials for the Gerrie Collins Award should include documentation of the nominee’s contributions to departmental projects, involvement in student activities and professionally related community activities.

  • Supporting materials should include a brief vita that outlines the nominee's professional experience and letters supporting the nomination. The official nomination form should appear as the first piece of supporting material.

  • A call for nominations will be placed on EMU Today. Nomination deadlines will be conveyed to University leadership.

  • All nominations and supporting materials must be submitted to the selection committee by the specified date. No late applications or materials will be accepted.
